This mail would like to be the summary of the various mediactive projects we are trying to develop with palestine indymedia.
This projects can be summarized at the moment as:
a. support to palestine imc in Bethlehem
b. support to set up a media center in Gaza
c. collective video project with palestina imc
d. actual proposals to gather funds fot these projects
e. link to interesting organizations and foundations who already work on the palestinian territory and who can be contacted
This message is to be intended as the beginning of a process and is being prepared together with palestine imc volunteers- Let's propose, update, add ideas, keeping the double english/italian versions, so that it will be possible to keep updated also non-italian-speaking people.

a. support to palestine imc in Bethlehem At the moment Palestine imc has no place to work in Bethlehem. The former workplace, provided by AIC will not be availabla anymore, the AIC being moved to Beit Sahour. We are working with some of imc palestine volunteers to list all the logistic-technical need they have to go on with their work. Their primary needs are finding a workplace to rent. Other expenses could be listed as: connection, fax and telephone lines. Tech needs are basically: 4 pcs and 2 laptop to be able to work from any location, as well as 2 digital cameras. The expenses of all this would range aroung 600-800$ a month and 10000$ of startup expenses.

b. support to set up a media center in Gaza We have received from some Palestinians organizations working in Gaza the request of support in setting up a press/media center in Gaza. We are still waiting for more information but the expenses will be more or less the same as per point a.

c. collective video project with palestine imc The IMC network has produced many collective video projects in the past starting in Seattle in 1999. There are a number a different distribution methods (mostly individual sales, and collective screenings) up to and including sattelite broadcast on Free speech TV. They are generally produced in a collective manner, and generally conform in questions of production and distribution income etc to the IMC principles of unity. This first IMC video project could be supported with producers from outside Palestine, working alongside Palestinian producers. There could be a sharing of technical and human resources and skills etc. to help get it started, and provide familiarity to local producers with the (very flexible) IMC process. Any funds raised from the project could go to building local Palestinian IMC infrastructure, with all decisions regarding this being under the decisions of the local Palestinian IMC collective. Any IMC Palestine video projects, just like other IMC produced Media, can be very successful in reaching an audience very active in the current global justice movements. Besides the inherent democratic structure of the global IMC network, this is another part of what makes IMC unique to virtually all other media producers.

The production process in the past has worked in a couple of different ways. Generally we pool whatever footage we want to share, and the edit either in a collective process in a small group, or individuals (or smaller groups) edit together shorter segments of 5 to ten minutes, and then these are assembled together into a finished longer project. This process completely open to any possibilities that the local collective decides on. We could set up an editing location either in Ramallah, or Bethlehem, or both. People could bring in laptops, camera’s, hardrives etc and set something up pretty quickly. Putting the word out both to activists coming in, and to local video producers can easily get enough raw footage to start producing material for distribution. Final distribution could hopefully take place out of local IMC’s as well as IMC Palestine to make mailing etc easier. d. actual proposals to gather funds fot these projects All this proposals underneath are only the first ones we have begun to investigate. Any other initiative or proposal is welcome and hoped fro :), from fundraining praties in squats to collection of hardware, to personal fundraising with friends :)))))))
i. Official Funds ----------------- We are preparing a fund request for some European foundations and maybe to the EU itself, as well as USA IMC that will try to submit it to american foundations and to get the tech equipment to better prices. In Italy we should try to involve institutions and networks who can fund communication projects in Palestine and we should think of a long-term project which should include a second-phase focused on teaching, workshops and trainings to let Palestinians people learn the skills neeeded to use computer and networks at professional levels in the Occupied Territories. Altremappe, a group that worked to the Break Point Media Center in Palestine Easter Action4Peace expedition and that is keeping in constant contact with palestinian organizations network, is willing to help us and to work with us to find for this project feasible support channels in Italy. The main problem is time. We would like to dispose of resources immediately in june to work on the installation of the equipment and of the network since then. Foundations and grants have complete different timing and so we have to find alternative ways to gather some money and resources waiting for the grants.
ii. Concerts ------------ We are working on organising a big concert to fund the media center in Bethlehem around mid june in Rome. Probably it will be in Forte Prenestino or Villaggio Globale. We are asking several bands to participate... This initiative would be supported by indy, altremappe, pirate university, Forte Prenestino, Radio Onda Rossa... We hope there will be enough people to work on this. Att the moment it seems possible, but it's still quite to bve organized. In the next days people from Forte Prenestino will contact the bands and see what their possibilities are.
iii. Public initiatives ----------------------- This are to be organized, but it could be a good idea to organize several parties and initiative to fund projects in Palestine.
iv. Private funds ;))))))) -------------------------- We are trying to contact famous artists and personalities that contacted us when we were raided to express solidarity. Now could be a good timing to ask them a concrete token of this solidarity and of their will to support independent information: part of their cachet for a concert should cover half the costs of a media center or maybe a full yearly support of a media center. Who can contact them ?
v. Hardware collection ---------------------- I have been sending out a call to mailing list and hacktivist to collect hardware we can put to use in this project, of Penthium class and above, so as to lessen the hardware expenses of the projects.
